Navigating grief and trauma with practical tools and resources

Counseling

Why consider counseling?

There are numerous types of mental health practitioners who have specialized skills and training to assist those working toward healing the emotional and psychological effects of grief and trauma. Qualified counselors go by many names: licensed professional counselor (LPC), licensed mental health counselor (LMHC), marriage and family therapist (LMFT), licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), psychologist, and psychiatrist. These practitioners have a master’s degree or PhD in their field of study, hundreds of hours of supervised clinical therapy experience, and a combination of modalities to assist clients. Counseling is an effective tool to use while moving through the various stages of healing grief and trauma.

How does counseling promote healing?

By assisting in “old life” and “new life” integration

By helping the mind and body restore balance and equilibrium

By offering positive ways of processing grief, traumatic grief, and trauma

By tailoring therapeutic options toward individual life experiences

By providing a safe and welcome space for all thoughts, feelings, and emotions
